Week 9
I observed and talked about the technology available to my mentor teacher today. She said that she loved how every classroom had their own projector. I think that is really nice too. there are no computers in the classroom besides her own personal one. Her class gets to go to the computer lab twice a week so it is really not a problem that they don't have computers in all the classrooms. My teacher said that if she needs any technology, she can just check it out and it is not a problem. It seems nice to be able to just check it out, that way the TV and other technologies do not take up space in the room. It also saves the school a load of money since it's not like all the teachers use a TV every day, or even every month. Overall, I am impressed with the resources available to the teachers at Riverview Elementary.

Week 8- Science
The science projects that I viewed:

The upsides for using my science project in an elementary school is that it is a fun way for kids to learn. It is also something out of the ordinary. Kids get bored if the same things are done over and over. They may enjoy getting to do this on the computer. Also kids seem to like using technology and it is a hands on way to learn about habitats. A downside is that there may not be enough computers for all the kids to have their own or there may be technical difficulties with the computers. Also it may require extra instruction on how to use the program. This could take up too much time.

Science Challenge
The teacher is going to create a power point with 4 habitats explaining the characteristics of each habitat. The teacher should include pictures of animals and why they live in the habitat that they do. While the teacher is presenting the power point, they will be taking brief notes and participating when necessary. Then it will be time for the students to have solo time on Kidsperation to asses their knowledge of what the teacher taught about. The kids will get to pick a list of animals and they will be instructed to put at least 4 animals in each habitat on Kidsperations. The habitats are wetlands, dessert, rain forest, and forest. These wetlands will be the same for each student but the list of animals can be different depending on which list they chose. When the students have completed this, they will show a partner and explain why they placed each animal in the habitat.
i. The content that we will be focusing on in our science activity is 2nd grade Standard III Objective Ia: Students will observe and describe relationships of plants and animals.
ii. The pedagogy we will be using is classifying. This will be a good fit because the students will be expected to classify different animals into different environments showing their understanding of plants and animals. Students will be using concept maps to classify the animals. The teacher will have prepared a power point to teach the relationship between animals and their environment. The student will classify the animals as an assessment.
iii. The technology that we will be using is Kidsperation. This program will help us to assess the students knowledge of animals and the environment that they belong to. This works with our pedagogy because students will classify the animals with their environment for the activity.
iv. We will be using a visual representation since the students will be classifying the animals and their environments on Kidsperation. The technology will help the students understand the objective because it will provide them with practice and visualization of the animals and environments. They will be able to see the animals and be able to physically place the animals in the correct environment.

Week 6
I viewed the virtual tours of Gillian, Kerry, and Maria. They were really good!
An upside for implementing a virtual tour in a classroom is that it is a really cool thing and I think kids would really enjoy doing it. It also gets them familiar with technology and it changes things up regarding lessons. Instead of having to listen to a lecture, they can follow the tour and learn a lot. Also, a virtual tour makes the subject seem more real to the kids. They can actually see the subject and its surroundings instead of just flat pictures of it in a text book. A downside is that it takes a lot of time for the teacher to do. Also, technology can be really temperamental and there is no guarantee that it will work for all the students.
